DevOps by the hour. One job, no retainer.

For a short job, or an extra pair of hands next to your team. You don’t have to start with an audit or a maintenance plan. Tell me what needs doing and I’ll reply with how many hours it will take and when I can start.

Or email jacob@codelevel.pl.

I reply within 1 business day.

The estimate in hours is a cap: if the work would go past it, I ask you first. The rate is EUR 60 per hour, net.

What people bring me

  • A deploy or CI pipeline that stopped working. I find the cause and fix it so releases go through again.
  • A server stuck on an old version of PHP, Node.js or the database. I move it to a newer version and check that everything still works afterwards.
  • Backups nobody has tested. I set them up and run a restore test, so you know you can actually restore from them.
  • Certificates and domains. A TLS certificate that doesn’t renew on its own, DNS records, a domain that needs moving.
  • No monitoring. I add monitoring and alerts, so you hear about an outage from an alert, not from a customer.
  • A Terraform or Kubernetes change to review. A second pair of eyes before it reaches production.
  • An old AWS account. A one-off tidy-up of the console: resources nobody remembers and permissions nobody uses.
  • A slow server. I find out what is loading it and fix the configuration.
  • Advice before a decision. AWS or Hetzner, which instance, whether a move makes sense at all. I answer in writing, billed like any other hour.

If your job isn’t on the list, write anyway. I’ll tell you whether it’s something for me.

How it works

  1. You describe the job

By e-mail: what is broken or what needs doing, what it runs on, and the deadline.

  2. You get an estimate

Within 1 business day I reply with the number of hours and the date I can start.

  3. You say yes

I start only once you have agreed to the estimate and the date.

  4. I work within the cap

The estimate is a cap. If the job turns out bigger, I ask you before I go past it.

  5. You get a summary

What I did and what I changed. The configuration changes go into your repository.

I work with the access you give me. The accounts and servers stay yours, so nothing depends on me alone.

Rates

An hour of planned work
EUR 60 per hour
A pack of 10 hours, valid for 3 months
EUR 550
Incident help on working days, 8:00–18:00 CET/CESTminimum 2 hours
EUR 80 per hour
Incident help in the evening, 18:00–22:00 CET/CEST, and at weekendsminimum 2 hours; I do not work nights
EUR 110 per hour

I bill the first hour in full, then in 15-minute steps. If something has just gone down, write to the contact address with URGENT in the subject. I read those first on business days.

Net prices in euro, for businesses only. VAT: 23% for businesses in Poland; reverse charge for VAT-registered businesses elsewhere in the EU; no Polish VAT outside the EU.

When another service fits better

Something to do every month

Then a maintenance plan fits better: hours are included, unused ones roll over to the next month, and you also get monitoring, backups with restore tests and agreed response times. Plans from EUR 190 per month.

A large AWS bill

Start with the cost audit. I go through the whole bill, and you get a list of changes with a saving figure next to each.
